On Demand: Materials to Improve your Direct Adhesive Dentistry (USD)

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE:

Conservative dentistry aims to remove as little tooth as possible during restorative procedures in order to better extend the lifetime of each tooth. Adhesive dentistry helps us achieve this goal.  The use of direct composites to restore posterior teeth should lead to well-contoured, sealed restorations with tight contacts.  Restoring anterior teeth should achieve similar goals but also attain sufficient esthetics to satisfy the patient.  Ideally, the materials used to achieve these goals should produce consistent results in an efficient manner. This lecture will review materials used for both posterior and anterior composites as evaluated in the UAB Biomaterials laboratory as well clinical applications of these materials.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Discuss composite materials used for posterior restorations including dual-cure bulk fill composites
  • Analyze matrix utilization and contouring instruments to achieve a tight and well-contoured contact.
  • Discuss composite materials used for anterior restorations
  • Discuss materials to achieve a high gloss with anterior composites
